CM rules out early assembly election
Jalandhar, Jul 2 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today reiterated that his government will not opt for preponement of assembly election but the ruling Congress is prepared to face elections any time.
Talking to reporters here today, Capt Singh said that the elections would be held at due time in February next year.
However, the decision on election schedule is to be taken by the Election Commission and his party was ready to go to poll at any time.
However, his government would not oblige leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who is foreseeing election early in October or so, he quipped.
The Chief Minister said that there was no reason for preponement of elections as the state government would like to take maximum possible time to advance process of proposed and ongoing developmental projects.
Over the possibility of holding of elections on the basis of new delimitation of constituencies, as notified by the Delimitation Commission, Capt Singh said that this issue would be decided by the Centre in a national perspective.
''However, I and my party is ready to face elections on new suggested constituencies'', the Chief Minister said.
He again ruled out possibility of a reshufle or change in his council of ministers in near future and reiterated that he had never hinted at such possibility at a press meet recently.
