K'taka striving to find permanent solution for sea erosion
Kaup, July 1 (UNI) The Karnataka Government is keen on finding a permanent solution to recurring sea erosion in the coastal districts, Fisheries Minister B Nagaraj Shetty informed today.
Inaugurating a fish market, set up at cost of Rs nine lakh, here he said the ministry was pressurising the Centre to clear the Rs 136 crore sea wall constrution project. However, as a temporary measure, it had directed Deputy Commissioners of coastal districts to ensure that huge boulders were put up immediately in areas were sea erosion was severe. Such a measure was already being implemented at Ullal in Dakshina Kannada, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Medical Education Minister V S Acharya assured that the Government would make additional budgetary provisions for the fishing community in the coming Budget.
Later, inaugurating a police station complex here, he said the government was preparing a blue print for the integrated development of the police department in the state. In the changing scenario, the department need to be provided with modern equipment to tackle any situation effectively, he added.
