Former Olympian Yousuf Khan passes away
Hyderabad, July 1 (UNI) Former Olympian and Arjuna award winning football player Mohammed Yousuf Khan (69) passed away this morning at his house in Noorkhan Bazar, near Charminar, in the old city.
He is survived by a wife, a son and five daughters.
Yousuf Khan had represented India at 1960 Rome Olympics, besides Asian Games and number of other national and international tournaments.
He was suffering from Parkinson's diesease since 1994 due to three head injuries sustained during his playing days.
Khan was sustaining himself on the Rs 3,500 monthly pension he got from the State Police department after his retirement and a monthly grant of Rs 2000 from the Union Government.
Recently, at a function organised here, Khan was presented a cheque for Rs 50,000 for his medical expenses.
He represented Hyderabad City Police, Andhra Pradesh and India at various tournaments. He was one of the two Indians picked for the 1965 Asian all star team and represented the AP Police, which contributed immensely to the golden phase of Indian football by winning almost every Cup that was at stake when S A Rahim was the coach.
