UP to bring ordinance on reservation in higher education

Lucknow, June 30 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today decided to continue 15 per cent management quota in private technical and non-technical institutions and gave its nod to bring an ordinance for restructuring reservation in education soon.

The state cabinet meeting here this evening chaired by chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav decided there would be no reservation in the 15 per cent management quota in all the institutions.

UP will also bring a bill -- UP Admission to Education Institutions (SC/ST and other backward reservation) Bill, 2006 through an ordinance soon.

Briefing mediapersons here, state chief secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpayee said the bill would take care of the new state reservation policy for a total of 85 per cent seats available in each institution, except for minority run instititutions.

Mr Bajpayee, however, refused to devulge details of the quantum of reservation to each category in the new bill.

In another decision, the government decided to preserve the state libraries by preparing an Act under the 7th schedule of the Constitution.

Under the proposed new Act, a state-level library council would be set up along with district level committes to improve the condition of libraries.

At present, there are two public libraries -- Allahabad and Lucknow, 54 district libraries, 100 government aided non-government libraries and 500 libraries at the tehsil and block level.

The government also decided to appoint the chairperson of the Bar Council of India or his nominee to the member of the general body of the Ram Manohar Lohia Law Institute, Lucknow.
