Murray keeps British interest alive
LONDON, June 30 (Reuters) Andy Murray kept British hopes alive at Wimbledon when he completed a 7-6 6-4 4-6 6-1 second round victory over France's Julien Benneteau today.
The 19-year-old Scot is the home nation's only representative in the third round of the men's or women's singles but he faces a huge test in the last 32 against American Andy Roddick, the 2004 and 2005 runner-up.
Murray led by two sets to one overnight against French Open quarter-finalist Benneteau after poor light halted the match on yesterday.
The teenager needed only 26 minutes to wrap up victory today, clubbing a forehand winner on match point to equal his best performance at a grand slam in front of an appreciative Centre Court crowd.
Britain has not had a men's singles champion at Wimbledon since 1936.
