Murray braced for Roddick onslaught

LONDON, June 30 (Reuters) Scottish teenager Andy Murray faces the biggest match of his life tomorrow when he plays twice runner-up Andy Roddick in the Wimbledon third round.

Murray, Britain's last representative in the singles, beat Roddick on his way to winning the San Jose hardcourt title in February but has nothing but respect for the American with the world's fastest serve.

''He'll want to get his own back so he's not going to lie down easily,'' said the unseeded 19-year-old Scot, who is trying to become Britain's first men's singles champion in 70 years.

''The return of serve is going to be key tomorrow if I'm going to have a chance of winning.

''His game is a little bit better suited to grass than mine.

To beat Roddick on grass is pretty tough. Only (triple defending champion Roger) Federer's done it on grass here the last couple of years so it's a tough ask for me.'' Third seed Roddick reached the final in 2004 and 2005 and will start the match a hot favourite. But he says he will not underestimate the combative Briton, who took Argentine David Nalbandian to five sets in the third round last year.

''He's a good player,'' said Roddick. ''He's got a great feel for the game. He hits a lot of drop shots. He competes pretty well. He makes you beat him, which is tough.

''He's very good at going from defence to offence. I felt like I got passed a lot (in San Jose).

''He's a pretty consistent player. He's not going to give anything to you. It makes for a long day at the office.'' REUTERS PK RAI2255
