K'taka to use municipal solid waste to produce power
Bangalore, June 30 (UNI) Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) today held a hearing on promotion of municipal solid waste and industrial effluents to energy projects with a view to reduce environmental pollution and generate additional energy.
Experts in alternative energy production, academicians and bureaucrats gave their views about such projects.
A release from KERC here said Sri Gayatri Energy Resource Recovery Ltd Managing Director Ramesh Bingi made a presentation on the company's proposed eight MW intergrated waste to energy plant near the city in association with the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.
He highlighted the advantages of setting up such plants and added that incentives provided by the government should not be taken as a factor while deciding the tariff since there would be some bottlenecks in availing the incentives.
Mr Pratap Kumar, Director of State Power Procurement Co-ordination Cell, said power utilities like KPTCL and ESCOMs would not levy wheeling, banking and cross subsidy surcharges for the power produced from municipal waste and industrial effluents.
BMP officials assured that those who set up power plants using municipal waste would be provided land at nominal price, part of capital investment and basic infrastructure like construction of approach road, for such projects.
KERC Chairman K P Pandey presided over the meeting, the release added.
