Krishna Raja Sagar dam crosses 100 ft mark: Rains in North

New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) The Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir, built across the river Cauvery, crossed the 100 ft mark in Karnataka as the Southwest monsoon arrived in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh with several areas in Himachal Pradesh experiencing rain for the third day today.

Delhi is set to receive the first monsoon showers over the next 48 hours.

In Punjab, where the mercury stayed at a low level following rainfall, Amritsar recorded 11.8 mm and Nangal Dam 20.0 mm rain till this morning.

Many areas in Haryana also had rainfall. Hissar recorded 27.0 mm rain, followed by Kalka ( 7mm) and Ambala (1.2mm).

The northern limit of the monsoon passed through Udaipur, Jalawar, Gwalior, Bareilly, Dehra Dun, Ambala and Amritsar, according to the Weather Office.

Moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh for the third day today with the southwest monsoon advancing into the entire state. Nagrota Surian, Dharmsala and Gamroor experienced heavy downpour while Sujanpur Tira, Bhang-Manali, Solang Nullah and Pandoh had moderate rainfall.

The Met office said Rampur in Shimla, Naduan in Hamirpur and Guler in Kangra also recorded 44.6, 41.5 and 28.5 mm rains respectively during the last 24 hrs.

The weather office has warned of heavy rain at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh during the next 48 hours even as moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers will occur at many places in the region.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, measured 1.8 mm while Jammu, the winter capital, registered 4.1 mm rainfall.

The national capital could get its first South West monsoon rains over the next 48 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department said today.

While the maximum temperature was recorded at 36.8 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, the minimum was 25.3 degrees C, three degrees below normal.

The relative humidity persisted at 86 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Southwest monsoon has advanced into most parts of north Arabian sea, some parts East and West Uttar Pradesh, many parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttaranchal and most parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
