Enough apologising to US fans, says Coulthard

LONDON, June 30 (Reuters) Briton David Coulthard says Formula One should stop apologising to US fans about last year's six-car debacle at Indianapolis and move on.

''We have said our sorries. I don't see why the American public deserves more apologies than some other races which have not been particularly good,'' British newspapers quoted the Red Bull driver as saying ahead of Sunday's race at the Indiana circuit.

''It was an unfortunate situation but those who bought tickets have had their money back and we will just go and do the best we can.

''If the Americans enjoy it, great. If they don't then so be it,'' added the Scot.

The seven Michelin-equipped teams at last year's US Grand Prix pulled out before the start due to tyre safety concerns, leaving Ferrari's Michael Schumacher to win a six-car 'race' -- the seven times champion's only victory in 2005.

Angry fans threw bottles on the track and demanded their money back afterwards.

''This is going to leave a long, lasting bitter taste in people's mouths,'' Coulthard, who did not race, had said at the time. ''Quite frankly, as a driver I'm embarrassed to be involved in this situation.'' Michelin offered refunds and purchased 20,000 tickets for this year's race to be given away in a buy two get one free deal to those who attended in 2005.
