Brazil need cold blood, maximum efficiency - coach
FRANKFURT, June 30 (Reuters) Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira said the holders would need cold blood and maximum efficiency in tomorrow's World Cup quarter-final against France.
''If you make a mistake in the quarter-finals, you don't take the trophy home,'' he said on Friday. ''You have to have cold blood, maximum concentration and for this you need experience.
''We have to play with maximum efficiency and zero error.'' Parreira said he expected a cagey battle between two of the oldest teams at the competition.
''France don't play in a hurry, they pace the game well and they're a team who've learned from experience,'' he said.
''But we mustn't get caught out because suddenly they explode with a move of pure speed and if we're not awake, we could get surprised.'' The coach reiterated that there was no sense of revenge in the Brazil camp following the 1998 World Cup final, when France beat the South Americans 3-0.
Zinedine Zidane, who has announced he will retire after the World Cup, scored twice for France on that day while Ronaldo gave a dazed performance for Brazil, having been taken to hospital hours earlier after reportedly suffering a convulsive fit.
''From what I know of Ronaldo, he's not thinking about this matter,'' said Parreira, who persised with the striker despite two poor opening performances and speculation that he was overweight.
''He's calm, confident and he's smiling again. I'm sure there's no trauma.'' ''I haven't seen anyone in our camp mention revenge,'' added Parreira. ''In any case, that could only happen if we met in the final and this is a quarter-final.'' Parreira added: ''Ronaldo and Zidane are two monsters in the world of football.
''Zidane is at the end of his career but Ronaldo has a few more to go. Don't forget that he's only 29 and he could play for another four or five years.
''I can see him playing another World Cup if he's motivated.'' Reuters HS VV2217
