Roddick survives testing first round
LONDON, June 28 (Reuters) American Andy Roddick came through a tricky first round test at Wimbledon today 6-7 6-4 7-6 6-2 against Serbian Janko Tipsarevic.
The 2004 and 2005 runner-up struggled to impose his power-based game for much of the match against world number 101 Tipsarevic, who reached the quarter-finals at the Nottingham warm-up event last week.
Roddick was 3-0 down in the third set tiebreak before his world record serve helped him recover to take it 8-6.
Tipsarevic's resolve was broken and the Serb subsided in the fourth set, delivering a double-fault on Roddick's first match point. The third seed will face German Florian Mayer in the second round.
