Iraq mosque wrecked in sectarian attack -police
BAQUBA, Iraq, June 28 (Reuters) Militants fired mortars at a Sunni mosque in a town northeast of Baghdad early today in an apparently sectarian attack that left the mosque and some 20 shops destroyed by fire, police in Diyala province said.
There were no casualties but a bank was also burnt out in the overnight attack in Shahraban, just north of the provincial capital Baquba, said a police officer who blamed Shi'ite militiamen.
The province, where al Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed earlier this month, has seen much sectarian violence among its diverse population. A number of Shi'te shrines were destroyed in attacks there six weeks ago.
