Pune, June 28 (UNI) After a hiatus of nearly 16 days from June 7-22, the southwest monsoon, that had arrived early, has once again revived and advanced into some parts of central peninsula on June 23 and 24, according to the Indian Meteorological Department here.

Director Weather Forecasting, Ms R R Lele said the falling pressure tendency in the northeastern quadrant of the country and an upper air cyclonic circulation in the mid troposheric levels of Andhra Coast over the West Central Bay indicate the likelihood of formation of a low pressure area over the west central bay in the following 72-hour period, this is a favourable sign for enhanced rainfall activity for the country, with the increased pressure gradient along the west coast, there is enhanced rainfall activity for the past three days which is likely to sustain for the coming three days. Besides, as per indications of some numerical model predictions, there is a likelihood of the formation of a low pressure area on June 29-30 in the Bay of Bengal, and if it comes true then enhanced rainfall activity will be seen in the west coast, she said.

The break in monsoon from June 7-22 was normal and attributed to absence of any synoptic symptoms like a low pressure area or circulation over the Arabian Sea and the Bay Of Bengal as well as the weakening of the pressure gradient along the west coast.

During the period of hiatus in Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) various parts of the country continued to receive scattered thundershowers activity that is characteristic of a weak monsoon.

Konkan, Goa, madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha also continued to receive scattered rainfall and thundershowers during the period, she informed.
