Bengal Cabinet to appoint 70 teachers for "Akalavya" schools

Kolkata, Jun 28 (UNI) The West Bengal government today decided to appoint 70 teachers for five centrally sponsored backward class "Akalavya" schools in five districts of the state.

"The teachers will be appointed in the schools in Bardhaman, Purulia, Bankura, Jalpaiguri and West Midnapore. The requisition had been sent to the School Service Commission," Backward Classes Welfare Minister Jogesh Burman told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

Altogether 2,100 students study in the five schools.

The state government had also decided ask the Centre for two more "Akalavya" schools-- one each in Birbhum and South Dinajpur, Burman said.

The state government had also planned nine schools in the lines of "Akalavya" schools in Bardhaman, Bankura, Purulia, East and West Midnapore and Jalpaiguri districts.

" The total cost for the project will be Rs 22 crore and the state government has sought sanctions of the funds from Rural Infrastructure Development Board, " he said.

The state Cabinet had also decided to buy 70 buses for the Calcutta Tram Company (CTC) at a cost of Rs 7.65 crore.

" A state co-operative Bank loan will be sanctioned for buying the buses, " he said.

The next Cabinet meeting is scheduled on July 25.
