Two self-financing Med colleges to follow reservation rules
Chennai, June 27 (UNI) Two of the eight self-financing Medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, which were not Deemed Universities, today offered to follow the rule of reservation in admission to MBBS in this academic year.
Dr S Vembar, President of the Tamil Nadu Private Medical Colleges' Association, formed for the purpose of conducting Entrance test for admission, told newspersons here that though it was not mandatory to follow the rule of reservation, the colleges have volunteered to do so.
Accordingly, the two colleges--PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research and Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute-- which had 250 seats in total, would set apart 19 per cent to SC/ST, 20 per cent MBC and 30 per cent to BC, he added.
He said the association, which was granted permission by the Justice Subramani Committee for conducting entrance, would hold the test for admission on July 14 and begin counselling on July 26.
He said the colleges, however, were not in a position to volunteer seats to government quota, as done by self-financing engineering colleges in the state. Fifteen per cent of the total seats would be reserved for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), he informed.
The Association had approached the Raman Committee, which was monitoring the implementation of fee structure, to fix Rs four lakh as fee per year. The NRIs, who were not required to take entrance, would be required to pay one lakh US dollars for the entire MBBS course, he added.
