NC leaders meet Azad over problems in Kargil
Srinagar, Jun 27: A high-profile delegation of the main opposition National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir today called on Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and discussed various issues confronting the state, particularly border area of Kargil.
Leader of the Opposition in state Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather and former state minister Qamar Ali Akhoon met Mr Azad and submitted a memorandum on problems faced by people living in far-flung areas, including Kargil.
Mr Azad assured the delegation that the state government would consider the issues for their resolution at the earliest.
The Chief Minister said he would discuss in detail all issues during his visit to Kargil next month.
The memorandum demanded restoration of democratic set-up in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil, re-opening of Kargil-Skardu Road, punishment to those involved in desecration of the Holy Quran and a mosque at Bodh Kharboo on February 5 this year.
Grant of divisional status to the Ladakh region with headquarters at Kargil, fairness in recruitment to the Army with regard to the Muslim youth of Kargil, grant of sub-division for Sankoo, Shaker and Chickten with naibbat status to Shargol and Tysuroo blocks and starting of work on the Srinagar-Leh transmission line were the other demands.
