Jabalpur, June 27 (UNI) While freezing the work of a three-member committee formed by the Madhya Pradesh government for monitoring a common entrance examination for the state's private medical and dental colleges, the state High Court today favoured constituting a fresh committee -- chaired by a retired judge -- by June 30 in keeping with Supreme Court directives.

Chief Justice Anang Kumar Pattnaik and Justice Suresh Chandra Sinho heard a PIL by ABVP and issued a notice to the government directing it to present on July 3 the documents that led to appointment of the first committee for overseeing the Private Dental and Medical Colleges Association's test.

Petitioner's Counsel N S Kale submitted that the apex court had directed formation of a three-member committee headed by a retired High Court judge but the first committee's composition was otherwise. It was constituted on May 30 and a notification issued subsequently.

''The permanent committee, envisioned by the Supreme Court, was to be chaired by a retired judge nominated by the High Court and that judge would nominate the other two members,'' explained Mr Kale.

The new committee would review the exam process and be authorised to cancel it if necessary.
