Moderate rain lash region

Chandigarh, June 27 (UNI) Moderate rain lashed many parts of North-West India during the past 24 hours, bringing a considerable fall in the temperature in the region.

The mercury dipped by two degrees to ten degrees celsius below normal in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh following rain.

According to the Weather Office here, southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of north Arabian sea and Saurashtra and Kutch and in some parts of east Uttar Pradesh.

Conditions are favourable for further advance of south west monsoon over some parts of Uttar Pradesh during the next 48 hours.

Moderate to heavy rains or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places in Himachal Pradesh and light to moderate rains or thunershowers at many places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.

In Punjab, the temperature fell ten degrees below normal at Amritsar following downpour. The city recorded the temperature at 29.4 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana, which measured 23 mm rain, registered 31.4 degrees Celsius, nine degrees below normal. Patiala recorded five degrees below normal at 34.0 degrees in the wake of rain. Balachour reported 38.2 mm rainfall.

Certain areas in Haryana also had rain. Rohtak recorded 108.2 mm rain and Nelokheri 45.4 mm rainfall till morning today. The mercury dipped eight degrees below normal at Ambala recording 31.1 degrees.

Several areas in Himachal Pradesh, including Bhuntar, Una, Guler and Dharamsala also experienced rain. Mandi recorded 65 mm rain till 0830 hrs. Shimla and tourist resorts of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda also reported rainfall.

The temperature also fell in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas with the city recording 32.6 degrees, five degrees below normal.

Yesterday,s western disturbance over north Pakistan and adjopining Jammu and Kashmir persisted as an upper air cyclonic circulation extended up to 3.6 km above sea level.

The induced upper air cyclonic circulation over central Pakisatan and adjoining northwest Rajasthan now lay over north Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana and its neighbourhood extending upto 4.5 km above sea level.
