Best Indian NGO award instituted
New Delhi, Jun 27 (UNI) International NGO Resource Alliance today announced the launch of 'The India NGO Award 2006', to felicitate and recognise exemplary work being undertaken by non-profit organisations in India.
Supported by 'The Nand and Jeet Khemka Foundation', the award was instituted to recognise non-profit organisations for following good standards and practices in resource mobilisation, accountability and transparency, a statement said.
The award would carry total prize money of Rs 16 Lakh.
Resource Alliance Chief Executive Officer Simon Collings said in India, these NGO Award 2006 were an initiative to identify and reward successful resource mobilisation practices amongst non-profit organisations in this country.
''There are many organisations doing unparalleled work towards development and preservation of the society in India who have gone unrecognised for so many years. We hope that this award will encourage Indian NGO's to inculcate best practices in resource mobilisation and give those with excellent track record due recognisiton.'' The entries received for the India NGO Award 2006 would be divided into four regions -- North, South, East and West. Two finalists would be selected from each region and invited to the final award ceremony in Delhi, where the final four national winners would be announced and receive the awards.
The first prize winner would receive the title of NGO of the Year, and would be presented with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs eight lakh. The second prize winner would receive a trophy and a cash prize of Rs four lakh while two third prize winners would each receive a trophy and a cash prize of Rs two lakh.
Any NGO and non-profit organisation could participate in the competition except those that were primarily involved in political activities or promoting religious activities.
