Tirodkar taken into custody by MCOCA court
Mumbai, June 26 (UNI) Former crime reporter Ketan Tirodkar has been taken into custody by the Maharashtra Crime of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court this afternoon following a Bombay High Court directive.
MCOCA judge Mridulla Bhatkar has ordered to take his custody and sent him to Arthur Road jail.
Tirodkar had filed a private complaint during 2004 before the MCOCA court exposing encounter specialist Daya Nayak's alleged nexus with the underworld gang and also admitted his link with goons.
In his complaint he disclosed that he had acted as a conduit between gangster Chhota Shakeel and Nayak to take bribes from the underworld for transferring police officers.
The complaint by Tirodkar was treated by the Mumbai Police as confession and he was arrested on July 9, 2004 under MCOCA Act.
Later he was granted interim bail on August 4, 2005 for a personal bond of Rs one lakh by MCOCA court which was challenged by the state before Bombay High court.
Bombay High Court had set aside the interim bail granted to Tirodkar and directed to take his custody by June 26.
He had also moved an application before the MCOCA court in October last year for pardon which was rejected by the court.
However, Tirodkar had moved a bail application before special MCOCA judge on June 15 which had also come up for hearing today.
The Judge after hearing his bail plea reserved her order to June 28.
