1.7 lakh people from India, Pak travel to either side in 5 months
New Delhi, June 26 (UNI) In a major boost to people-to-people contact between India and Pakistan, nearly 1.7 lakh people from both countries have travelled to either side during the past five months using various modes of transport.
While 83,994 travelled by air, 47,697 travelled by train including the weekly Thar Express and the bi-weekly Samjhauta Express.
About 8013 people travelled by bus and on foot across the Line of Control (LOC) and 28425 people travelled through Wagha and 903 by crossing the LOC on foot.
However, air continues to be the most widely used mode of transport between the two countries, a spokesman of the External Affairs Ministry said here today while giving the figures.
The Indian High Commission in Islamabad issued a total of 33,000 visas during the period, the spokesman said.
