New Delhi, June 25 (UNI) The turnaround in weather in Delhi this week wherein a heavily overcast sky led to several spells of rain and thundershowers on Monday and yesterday, is not a pre-monsoon phenomenon but an offshoot of localised developments, the India Meteorological department says.

The Met office said the heavy rainfall on Monday night and on Tuesday was caused by a fresh upper air cyclonic movement.

The cyclonic movement, together with the high levels of humidity, resulted in the build up of clouds, the met office said.

Similarly the heavily overcast sky and light rains yesterday were an ofshoot of the high humidity levels and soaring mercury over the past few days.

Also, the coolness in the weather yesterday was caused by Easterly winds.

Weathermen said till now, the Southwest monsoon's advancement from the South was to Maharashtra while in the East, it had advanced into Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon as on Friday passes through Porbandar, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Jalgaon, Parbhani, Ramagundam, Kanker, Ambikapur, Daltonganj and Raxaul, they said.

The scheduled date for arrival of the monsoon in Delhi is June 29. However, there could be a deviation of a few days in the date of the Monsoon's arrival here, they said.

The weather office said light Rain or thundershowers are likely to be witnessed in Delhi over the next 48 hours while there was a possibility of heavy rains at a few places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal.
