Ranchi, Jun 25 (UNI) With a view to ensuring speedy disposal of cases, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 1000 crore for strengthening the capacity of existing courts besides contemplating creation of 'Gramin Nyayalaya' (Village Courts) all over the country.

Union Law Minister Hans Raj Bharadwaj today said the plan to create village courts was aimed at smooth disposal of cases, and save people from travelling to distant places for justice on petty matters.

Mr Bhardwaj, who was present at a function at Raj Bhavan here, told UNI that the Ministry would see that the state governments get financial help for establishing such courts, ''for it will enable courts going to the poor people to give justice.'' Referring to a specific question on pending courts cases and the inadequate number of judges, the Minister said the Centre could not do much about it alone, for the state governments had also a role to play in this regard.

He, however, noted that when the Congress-led UPA came to power two years back, the number of vacant posts of judges stood at 330 in the different High Courts, but now has been brought down to 100, with 230 new appointments.
