'Changes would be made in CPC, IPC'
Ranchi, Jun 25 : Saying the proposal to redefine rape to protect fairer sex is lying with the Home Ministry, Union Law Minister Hans Raj Bharadwaj today asserted that more changes, if required, would be made in CPC and IPC to take care of women and children, most exploited in the society.
Mr Bharadwaj hoped the process to redefine rape would usher in a revolutionary change in the system and made it clear that things would not end there for criminal procedure code and Indian Penal Code would undergo changes to safeguard the women and children who had been remaining the worst vicitims of the system.
When his attention was brought to another imporatant issue on mandatory registration of marriage, Mr Bharadwaj said, " We cannot compel anybody to have marriages registered because of many social factors, including religios point of view. " " But we need to create social awareness regarding the importance of the act, " he said.
Mr Bharadwaj, however, saw a silver lining as many educated people were getting their marriages registered besides following religious rituals.
