Workshop on Genetic Engineering begins
Chandigarh, June 24 (UNI) A 14-day National Workshop on Genetic Engineering, being organised by the Department of Biotechnology, Panjab University (PU), was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof K N Pathak here today.
Eminent scientist from International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, (New Delhi) Dr Navin Khanna, who has developed many diagnostic kits for dengue infection and viral fever, delivered the keynote address on 'Recombinant DNA Technology'. He talked at length about basic cellar metabolism using animations, and introduced the participants to the basic techniques involved in genetic engineering.
Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Director Dr Suman Govil highlighted the 'Human Resources Programme' being carried out by DBT, which is spending crores and crores of rupees to produce skilled professionals in the field of Biotechnology. The DBT is funding over 30 M Sc Biotechnology cetntres all over the country.
