Trade unions' national convention in August
Hyderabad, June 24 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) General Secretary Gurudas Dasgupta today said trade unions would organise a national convention in the first week of August in New Delhi.
Addressing the media here, Mr Dasgupta said AITUC, CITU, HMS, AICCTU, TUCC and other trade unions would take part in the convention in which, resolutions would be adopted against the policies of the UPA government. He said future agitational programmes would also be chalked out.
Stating that a national general strike was on the agenda of the convention, he said a final decision on this would be taken.
Seven lakh bank employees would participate in the strike on August 7 to protest against reforms in the banking sector, Mr Dasgupta said.
He added that the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) employee unions would participate in the strike call given by AITUC in protest against disinvesment on July 7.
He said NMDC employees would go on idefinite strike if the government did not withdraw the disinvestment proposal.
Mr Dasgupta alleged that the Centre was dangerously following economic policies, which were hurting employees and all sections of people in the country.
AITUC state President V V Rama Rao said AITUC central council meeting was being organised from July 10 to 12 in Visakhapatnam.
