South-West monsoon revives with a bang in K'taka
Bangalore, June 24 (UNI) Heavy rains lashed the Coastal and Ghat areas of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu and Shimoga districts during the last 24 hours as the South-West monsoon made a strong comeback after a lull of more than two weeks in Karnataka.
According to the MET office here, monsoon was active over coastal Karnataka, with Karwar in Uttara Kannada receiving an exceptionally heavy rainfall of 34 cm.
Low lying areas were inundated, mainly in Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts. However, no loss of life was reported.
Heavy rainfall had been forecast at a few places over Coastal Karnataka during the next 48 hours. Heavy rain might also occur at isolated places over the Ghat areas of South Interior Karnataka and Belgaum district of North Interior Karnataka during the same period, a MET department report said.
The temple town of Kollur received 21 cm of rain, while Udupi (20), Ankola (19), Agumbe (17) Mangalore AP, Panambur, Bhagamandala and Karkala (17 each) also witnessed heavy downpour.
Other stations which recorded heavy rainfall were Mudibidre 12 cm, Belthangadi, Belgaum City 11 each, Bantwal 10, Kundapur, Mangalore 8 each, Kumta and Virajpet 7 each.
