Sanction sea erosion proj proposal, K'taka CM to PM

Bangalore, June 24 : Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to sanction the State's Rs 240 crore project proposal to address sea erosion problem along the Karnataka coast.

Addressing a large gathering at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the elevated expressway project here, in which the Prime Minister too participated, he said the State Government had submitted a detailed proposal to the Centre, seeking assistance.

The Chief Minister pointed out that several villages along the Karnataka coast had been facing severe threat of sea erosion every monsoon. Thousands of people living in the coastal areas in both Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts had lost their houses and farmland. Besides, it also caused severe environmental problems.
