Sack HP University VC: BJP

Shimla, June 24 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh unit of the BJP today demanded that Himachal Pradesh Vice Chancellor L R Verma should be sacked for his involvement in various irregularities ever since he took over the post.

Both the Vice Chancellor and Controller of Examinations should resign on moral grounds after the state High Court ordered the constitution of a three-member police committee to probe irregularities in the Combined Pre-Medical Test (CPMT), ''party's state president Suresh Bhardwaj said in a release here.

He said the committee's report would help in arriving at the truth in the issue, besides revealing the functioning of the university.

Mr Verma has committed several irregularities during his tenure including that of sanctioning 10-year leave to him after taking over as the University Vice Chancellor, he said.

In another release, the party spokesman Randhir Sharma accused the Virbhadra Singh government of being anti-farmers and anti-orchardists, saying the government has not announced any relief to them even though they had lost majority of their crops due to hailstorm and drought conditions prevailing in the state.

Majority of apple and mango crop in the state has been damaged due to hailstorm, causing huge losses to the farmers and the orchardists, he said.

The government instead of announcing relief to them was not even aware of it, he claimed.

He accused the state government of failing to provide adequate drinking water and fodder for animals in the state and said the farmers who lose their crops due to natural calamities should be compensated adequately.
