Randhawa tied 22nd, Shiv Kapur misses cut in Johnnie Walker
Gleneagles, June 24 (UNI) Jyoti Randhawa dug deep into his vast reserve and returned a card of two-under 71 to move up to the tied 22nd but compatriot Shiv Kapur fell tantalisingly short of the cut line and crashed out of the Johnnie Walker Championship here.
After a poor opening round of 74, Shiv looked determined to make amends and slotted three birdies in a bogey-free front nine.
Things, however, went horribly wrong in his outward nine where Shiv double bogeyed the 10th hole but partly recovered with a birdie on the 12th. Just when he seemed to have escaped an ouster, Shiv dropped two shots in the par-five final hole and missed the cut by just a shot.
Randhawa, on the other hand, was his composed self and dropping a bogey in each nine could not dampen his spirit as he fired four birdies - two in each nine -- for a round of 71 that took his two-day tally to three-under 143 for the tied 22nd place, seven shots behind birthday boy Colin Montgomerie, who took the halfway lead after his second successive round of 68.
