Pro, anti-reservation supporters clash in Kolhapur
Kolhapur, June 23 (UNI) A tense prevailed here today after a clash broke out between the pro-reservation and anti-reservation supporters in the city's Bindu chowk.
Police sources said that the activists of Malojiraje Vichar Manch of Rajendranagar, the city's suburb, took out a march protesting the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Shalinitai Patil's opposition to the reservation.
The activists tried to burn Ms Patil's effigy in the chowk, but they were prevented by the local Shiv Sena and Hindu Ekata activists leading to tension.
Police said when they reached the spot the Manch activists disappeared from the site, however they detained the Sena and Ekata activists for defying the prohibition order.
Later, the Republican Party of India (RPI) activists too gathered near Tararani chowk to take out protest march against the incident, but they too were detained, police added.
