Prisoner kills another inmate at Sabarmati jail

Ahmedabad, June 24 (UNI) A jail inmate allegedly killed his colleague in a scuffle at the Sabarmati central jail in the city this morning.

According to police, the incident took place this morning at around 0730 hours when prisoner Arvindsinh Hakimsinh allegedly indulged in scuffle with Dinesh Narayan, another inmate.

Police said Dinesh allegedly hit Arvindsinh with a iron rod, injuring him seriously.

On-duty guards immediately rushed to the spot and separated them.

Arvindsinh was rushed to the Civil hospital in a serious condition where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Arvindsinh was a convict in a murder case. However, the cause of the scuffle between them was yet to be ascertaiend.

This is the second such incident in the jail this month. Earlier on June 7, two prisoners, Haresh Gadhvi and Shabbir, clashed with each other near the jail's bathroom.

IG (prisons) H R Gehlot has rushed to the spot.

Sabarmati police have registered a case against Dinesh and further investigations are on to ascertain the cause of the scuffle, sources added.
