Notification issued for July 23 by-poll in Subhash Nagar ward of MCD

New Delhi, June 24: The Delhi state election Commission today issued a notification for the July 23 by-election to fill the vacancy in the Subhash Nagar ward of the Municipal corporation of Delhi.

The nominations for the election can be filed from June 26 while July 3 will be the last date for the filing of nominations. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on July 5 while the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is July 8.

The counting of votes will be held on July 25. Electronic Voting machines will be used for conducting the polls to the ward, the first time that the commission will make use of these machines for the conduct of a poll to a ward of the MCD.

The model code of conduct prescribed by the commission is already in force and shall remain in force upto the end of the process of by-election, namely the declaration of results by the returning officer.

The by-election was necessitated after the Supreme Court quashed the election of Sunita Bharti of the Congress from the ward on a petition by her BJP rival Meera Kanwaria that Mrs Bharti had submitted a fake scheduled caste certificate in support of her nomination.

Meanwhile, the BJP has announced Mrs Meera Kanwaria as its candidate for the by-election. Mrs Kanwaria will file her nomination to the returning officer on June 26.
