Nominate intellectuals to parliamentary committees: VHP

Varanasi, June 24 (UNI) VHP president Ashok Singhal today called for nominating intellectuals to all parliamentary committees.

Interacting with mediapersons here, Mr Singhal said policy making had become the sole prerogative of politicians and bureaucrats, ''who are simply aping other countries, and will never manage to deliver desired results in India.'' ''The need of the hour is to formulate policies in sync with peculiar geographical and demographical character of India. The best people, who can be involved in policy-making will be intellectuals, especially who have done significant work in various spheres of public life,'' Mr Singhal observed.

Intellectuals from all ideological hues should be nominated alongwith MPs to parliamentary committees, he maintained.

''Intellectuals like Nanaji Deshmukh, who through their peerless service to public have even compelled appreciation from President A P J Abdul Kalam, should be included in bodies engaged in devising policies for development.'' ''Imported policies'' will not work in our country, he asserted.
