Maneater kills girl in Pauri

Dehra Dun, June 24 (UNI) A tiger, believed to be a maneater attacked a 12 year old girl at Jhalpadi village in Pauri district on Friday, forest officials today said.

According to DFO (Pauri), Rashmi, a resident of Jhalpadi village was going to the fields with her mother in the evening when a tiger attacked and mauled her badly. The shouting of villagers forced the tiger to drop the girl after he dragged her for 100 metres. She was immediately rushed to the District Hospital but died on the way.

It was the third incidence of animal attack on a human in four months in the locality. On May 31 Sapna was killed by a tiger, Again in March a boy was killed. Several villagers were attacked in the same locality. Forest Officials had killed a tiger on June 6 taking it to be a man-eater.

However villagers now believe that Forest Officials killed the wrong tiger. Villagers anguished by the fresh incidence of tiger attack staged a demonstration at Garhwal Mandal Commissioner's Office demanding the execution of the man-eater.
