Jayalalithaa condemns Centre's decision on NALCO

Chennai, June 24 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today condemned the Centre's decision to disinvest ten per cent government equity in the National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) and the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC).

In a statement here, she said the move was ominous as it hits at the very root of India's Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

She said the move violated the clear assurance given to the nation by the UPA.

The National Common Minimum Programme of the UPA Government, of which the DMK is a constituent, clearly states that profit making PSUs will not be privatised or disinvested.

Ms Jayalalithaa called for immediate withdrawal of the proposed disinvestment plan. '' Such disinvestments will only open the door for the private sector to surreptitiously enter the public sector domain, apart from throwing lakhs of employees out of work'', she added.
