J and K export milk to Delhi
Srinagar, June 24 (UNI) For the first time milk has been supplied to Delhi by Jammu and Kashmir, a state government spokesman informed.
He said the Jammu and Kashmir Milk Producers Cooperative Ltd (JKMPCL) has exported about one lakh kgs of milk to various markets in Delhi through AMUL.
It is for the first time that any cooperative organisation has exported milk outside Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that 261 milk cooperatives have been organised in the state till March last.
About 55 lakh of milk kgs have been procured from various milk producers in the state and Rs 6 crore were paid to them.
It was decided that pace of dairy development would be given a fillip with establishment of more and more viable co-operatives of milk producers.
The move is an effort to create alternate income generating opportunity particularly for the rural youth and is in line with the dream of Khusal Kashmir.
Presently, the JKMPCL is marketing milk and pure ghee with the brand name of Snowcap and its entire requirement are met through the local milk producers.
