Investment of Rs 1,000 crore expected in tourism sector
Kannur, Kerala, June 24 (UNI) Kerala Home and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today said the State expected an investment of Rs 1,000 crore in the Tourism sector and employment to 50,000 people during the current year.
Giving away the best industrialist and best trader awards, he said the Bakel Fort and Muzhappilangad beach in Kannur district and some places in Wynad district would be developed into tourist centres.
Mr Balakrishnan said steps would also be taken for speedy acquisition of land for the proposed airport in Kannur.
The Government also proposed to exempt the Tourism sector from strikes and hartals, for which a conference of political parties, would be convened soon to evolve a consensus, he added.
The awards, instituted by the North Malabar Chamber of Commerce, were presented to Sunil Gupta of the Swadeshi International and Kunhiraman Nair of the K V R Motors, respectively.
