Haryana to spend Rs 70 crore on sports

Rohtak, June 24 (UNI) The Haryana government will spend Rs 70 crore on promotion of sports in the state, with Rs 40 crore earmarked for the construction of stadia in villages in the state.

This was stated by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while speaking at a state-level function organised here in the memory of Sir Chhotu Ram.

He said the number of sports nurseries in the state had been increased from 20 to 31. Besides, more sports facilities were being created in Moti Lal Nehru Sports School, Rai in Sonepat district.

The Chief Minister said a sports complex would be developed over an area of 100 acres in Rohtak where a sports academy would come up.

He said the Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak would spend Rs Ten crore only on promotion of sports.

Mr Hooda announced Rs one crore for construction of gymnasium hall in local Sir Chhotu Ram Stadium. Another Rs 70 lakh would be spent on developing Volleyball, Basketball, Kabbadi, Korf Ball grounds, grassy track and Wrestling hall in this stadium.

He said that 120 seats were reserved for outstanding sports persons in the ongoing recruitment for the Haryana Police.
