Harshad Nimbalkar elected as Chairman of Mah, Goa Bar Council

Mumbai, June 24 (UNI) Noted lawyer Harshad Nimbalkar was today elected unopposed as Chairman of Maharashtra and Goa Bar Council.

Mr Nimbalkar, who has been a member of the Bar Council since 2002, was declared elected this afternoon at the Bombay High Court.

When contacted, the Pune-based lawyer told UNI that as Chairman he would like to move the government regarding the amendment of the Advocates' Welfare Fund.

The relatives of all the advocates who have died or retired, should be given a sum of Rs three lakh, he said, adding, ''we want to have the bill introduced in the coming assembly session.'' Mr Nimbalkar, who came into limelight for representing the fake stamp paper scam prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi, said during his tenure, he would also work hard for the junior lawyers, entering the practice, to provided them a stipend for first two to three years.
