Five more deaths due to lightning in M'wada, toll reaches 69

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, June 24 (UNI) The death toll in Marathwada region due to lightning has reached 69, with five more deaths reported from four of the eight districts of the division on the seventh day today.

According to official sources at the divisional commissionerate here, two people were killed due to lightning in Beed followed by one each at Hingoli, Nanded and Latur, respectively.

With five more deaths due to lightning in the region, the toll has reached 69, with Latur registering the highest number of deaths at 16, followed by Beed 15, Aurangabad 10, Jalna 7, Osmanabad 7, Parbhani 5, Hingoli 5 and Nanded 4.

As per the information available at the divisional headquarters here, of the 69 people, the administration has distributed financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh to about 52 people in the region so far.

Meanwhile, all the eight districts of the region have received moderate rainfall in the day, with the division's average rainfall reaching to a further comfortable level of 65.3 mm, since the beginning of monsoon this year.

According to the rainfall figures of the day, Jalna recorded the highest rainfall of 30 mm, followed by Aurangabad 29.7 mm, Parbhani 12.1 mm, Beed 11.3 mm, Osmanabad 10 mm, Nanded 8.1 mm, Hingoli 3.5 mm and Latur 2.5 mm.
