Eleven organisations get award for innovative work

Mumbai, June 24 : Eleven organisations have been awarded the 'Innovation for India' award insituted by India-Marico Foundation for new and innovative steps in business and social areas.

In the social innovation, under non-business organisation categroy, the M V Foundation for elimination of child labour and universalisation of child education in Andhra Pradesh, Trichy police for setting up a successful community policing system and poverty eradication mission ''Kudambashree'' were felicitated.

In the social innovation in business category, ITC was awarded for its 'e-chaupal' system set up in rural India, Kegg Farms for developing high-yielding poultry stock - Kuroiler-- in rural India giving farmers a source of income, and internet portal 'AP Online' for providing access to government services.

In the business innovations category, Tata Motors was honoured for developing a four-wheeler at the cost of a three wheeler, Divya Bhaskar for housing and Bharat Biotech International Ltd for developing Himax technology, leading to substantial reduction in the cost per unit vaccine vial.

In the product model innovation awards in business category, Wipro Global Command Centre got the award for its remote delivery model and Cranes Software International Ltd for setting up a unique business model of 'acquire, enhance, expand', that allowed the company to grow at 93 per cent over five years.

The awards were presented at a function held here last night.
