Thiruvananthapuram, June 24 (UNI) The Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) today decided not to merge with any other political party, party Kerala President K Muraleedharan said today.

Talking to newspersons here he said ''The State Committee has decided to go ahead on its own by keeping the party identity, as the situation, which led to the formation of the new party is still prevailing.'' The meeting had also decided to strengthen the party and the district conventions would be held from July 10 to 18 and the state convention on August six and seven, he said adding it also appointed various committees to prepare political, agriculture, economic and organisational resolutions.

Mr Muraleedharan termed the maiden budget of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) as ''anti-people budget''.

The budget, which disappointed the people by imposing Rs 572 crore additional burden on them, had not proposed any suggestion for creating new job opportunties and any suggestions to create basic facilities, or to reopen the closed industries, he alleged.

Welcoming the budget proposals for farmers, he said it should be implemented and should not turn out to be mere promises. The previous Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) Government had also made such proposals for the farmers, but nothing had materialised, he added.

Mr Muraleedharan said the budget had ignored the IT sector fully.

Before taking a final decision on the proposed Smart City project at Kochi, the Government should have invited the Dubai Internet City, the promotors of the project, for further discussions, he added.

He said the DIC(K) would vote in favour of the self-finance college Bill introduced in the Assembly.

Before introducing the Bill the Government should have discussed the issue with the Opposition, he said.

He urged Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan to take action against Public Works Minister P J Joseph, who faced allegations on the Maithri Housing Project.

It was ridicule, appointing another committee to inquire into the allegations, as a Public Account Committee with Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, the then member in the Opposition, had found that Mr Joseph had been involved in the scam, he alleged.
