Varanasi, June 24 (UNI) In a novel experiment, the city police has started climbing into the houses of wanted criminals with the help of ladders used by the electricity and fire fighting department.

SSP Ashutosh Pandey today said all police stations had been provided with ladders to help police personnel climb into the houses of criminals.

''Now we will not wait for listed criminals to report to police station regularly. Any failure in this regard will see cops climb into their house and bring them to the police station,'' the SSP added.

Such raids at the houses and hideouts of listed criminals resulted in the arrest of four criminals on May 22 including Manoj alias Murgi, Ramesh Yadav, Manoj Gupta and Bahauddin.

''We are going to focus on criminals, who have been listed in police records since the last 10 yrs to ascertain their status quo, especially their links with Munna Bajrangi, Babu Yadav and Kripa gangs,'' Mr Pandey added.

He claimed proactive policing would help the department keep a tab on the movement of listed criminals.

A computerised database will also be prepared to ensure that complete information about a criminal or those providing shelter to such elements was available.
