CM inaugurates UNICEF state office in Jharkhand
Ranchi, Jun 24 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda today stressed the need to work in health sector, particularly in the remote areas of the state.
After inaugurating the state office of UNICEF here Mr Munda said though in the last five years, the state had passed through phases of development, more has to be done in health sector. Expressing satisfaction on decline in infant mortality rate he said it was 49 per thousand in the state against 54 at the national level in 2004.
The Chief Minister hoped the new UNICEF office would help initiate health oriented programmes. UNICEF country representative Cecilio Adorna said the organisation's support to Jharkhand was in the areas of children's health, education, water sanitation and nutrition sectors.
Earlier UNICEF was running its programmes from Bihar office establised in 1980.
