B'desh should take action against ULFA: BSF

Shillong, Jun 24: Expressing gratitude to the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and the Bangladesh government for initiating action against the small insurgent groups, the Border Security Force today urged the Bangladesh government to act against the ''influential'' insurgent group members allegedly operating from their country.

Talking to sources here, Inspector General of BSF in-charge Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland, S C Srivastava charged the Bangladesh government with still providing shelter to the leaders of outlawed organizations, including Paresh Baruah and Arvind Rajkhowa of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), Ranjan Daimari of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and Jeevan Singha of Kamtapuri Liberation Organisation (KLO) among others.'' ''They should take similar actions against the insurgent groups like the ULFA and NDFB of Assam, the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and People's Liberation Army (PLA) of Manipur, the National-Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) of Nagaland'', Mr Srivastava said alleging that action against smaller Indian insurgents was only an ''eyewash'' to the international community.

''The Bangladesh government should act against these big insurgent groups to ensure the world community that they are not promoters of terror activities'', he said.

Meanwhile, a local English daily here said most of the Indian insurgents, including the ultras of the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council of Meghalaya, escaped from their camps in Bangladesh in view of the ongoing flush-out operation conducted by the RAB and BDR at several places.
