Atwal misses cut, Chopra jumps to 8th in Booz Allen Classic

Washington, June 24 (UNI) Even a vastly improved show of four-under 67 could not help Arjun Atwal's cause as he missed the cut by a single shot but Daniel Chopra's six-under 65 was enough to take him to the eighth spot after the second round of the five million dollar Booz Allen Classic in Potomac, Maryland.

It was heartbreak for Atwal, who had finally looked to be in good form as he hit six birdies. But two bogeys on the fourth and seventh proved to be his undoing as he dropped out of contention from the tournament.

The Orlando-based Indian was once again off to a good start with a birdie on the second and -- except for the couple of dropped shots -- had a decent front-nine by gaining two more shots on the sixth and ninth.

Atwal's back-nine was even better as he hit three more birdies but Friday's poor performance came back to haunt him as he failed to make the cut with a two-day total of 141.

Meanwhile, Daniel Chopra's form got better as he fired seven birdies to jump to the eighth spot. His only disappointment of the day was a bogey on the fourth after hitting a hat-trick of birdies to take his total to 134.

The Indian-born Swede is now seven shots behind leader Ben Curtis (127) of America, who also had a seven-birdie one-bogey round of 65 to retain his top spot ahead of Argentine Jose Coceres.

Coceres had a successive round of 64 to take the second spot from Curtis' compatriot Jeff Gove (131) with a two-day total of 128. Gove dropped to the third place after carding a three-under 68.
