Annual Urs of Sufi Saint Nyam sahib celebrated in Kashmir
Srinagar, June 24 (UNI) The annual Urs of Faqir Nyam Sahib, a renowned Sufi saint and poet was today celebrated in the Kashmir Valley.
Thousands today joined the Urs of the saint at Habba Kadal in the old city.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt General (rtd.) S K Sinha and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad paid tributes to the Sufi saint.
Nyam Sahib, born in Srinagar in 1805, is known for his classical poetry which had great impact on the people of Kashmir.
He was preacher of sufism and mutual brotherhood. His poetry conveys love for God and his creation. He conveys the message of humanity and high traditions of Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Information, Khawaja Farooq Renzu said Information Department had already published a lot of literature on Nyam Sahib's poetry and about his contribution to the society in a consolidated manner.
In separate messages General Sinha and Mr Azad also highlighted the role of sufi poet in promoting Kashmiriyat, its ethos, communal amity and high human values.
