57 water bodies in north Kashmir identified for preservation

Srinagar, June 24 (UNI) About 57 water bodies have been identified for preservation in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir Union Minister for Water Resources, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, said today.

During his visit to far flung areas in the district he said 57 water bodies in Kupwara would be preserved while twenty four tube wells are also being dug.

He said efforts are also on to construct water tank and harvest rain water in this hilly area.

Mr Soz was on a visit to these areas to have an apprisal of peoples problems as also review pace of development.

The Union Minister for Water Resources said United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh are keen to ensure speedy development and provide assured employment to labourers, Kupwara district which is the only district in the valley that has been brought under the ambit of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
