2 militants killed, army captain injured in JK

Srinagar, Jun 24: Two militants were killed and an Army captain and two others were wounded in a night-long encounter in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said.

The sources said that troops of 55 Rashitriya Rifles (RR) and police launched a joint operation at a village in Pulwama district last night.

However, when the troops were about to storm a particular house, militants opened fire and hurled grenades at them.

Reinforcement was rushed from the nearby camps and the cordon around the house was further tightened.

Troops retaliated after the holed up militants refused to surrender.

An army captain and a soldier were injured in the shootout, the sources said, adding the injured were admitted to hospital where the condition of the captain is stated to be critical.

Two militants were also killed in the encounter, they said.
